However, if you plan on taking a class outside of SFUSD, be sure to get approval from your high school counselor as different high schools may have their own rules regarding requesting permission to take community college courses. Parents are encouraged to oversee the work of their student for timeliness and completeness.Workarounds Paths to Calculus: High Schoolįor students who take Algebra in 9th grade (without doubling up in Geometry), it is possible to get to Calculus senior year by taking a math class over the summer. Grades are perpetually available throughout the course and parents may contact me through Canvas messages on the course website. The first meeting will be at the start of the course, and the second will be scheduled by the student as needed. Included in the course fee will be two individual sessions with the instructor. Outside of class times, students may contact the teacher with any questions or concerns using the Canvas messages. Submitted student work will be graded and returned within one week of the due dates. Students will be graded on homework, projects, notes, tests, and exams. Scanner or smart phone for submitting tests and homework.Streaming video capabilities to watch recorded lectures.Learning how to learn mathematics is stressed in this course, so students who are motivated to improve should apply. The well-prepared applicant in grades 9-12 is familiar with the fundamentals of Algebra (has completed one year of Algebra) and has the maturity to diligently complete the assigned homework and seek additional help when necessary. A module quiz will be assigned after completion of each module’s assignments. End-of-module assignments will be a worksheet covering the week’s topics for which students will complete their answers in pencil, then scan and upload the completed worksheet, study, and submission of their notes. Daily assignments will consist of watching a video, answering questions based on the video, electronic homework assignments using an app that gives immediate feedback and multiple attempts to complete questions, and completing a note sheet of theorems and formulas. Throughout the course, each module must be completed before moving to the following module, to keep students on track. Following an initial conference, the teacher will provide a pacing guide to help students complete the course according to their goals. Since the course is self-paced, students should follow the order provided in the outline, but assignments may be submitted anytime during the course, with a recommended minimum time of seven weeks to complete the course. This course will have daily and end-of module assignments. Module 4: Other Similarity and Transformations.Students will build confidence and refresh their comprehension of topics by watching video tutorials provided in pre-recorded videos, followed by a variety of teacher-graded homework assignments. Successful completion of this course is equivalent to completing a one-semester course of Geometry and will earn a high school half-credit. For students who have not yet taken a full year of Geometry, this is a basic course to enable you to improve performance in future math courses including Geometry, Algebra 2, and Pre-Calculus. This seven-week Intensive Geometry course will review all major Geometry topics as well as strengthen the skills for students who have previously taken a Geometry course.
